HIGHLANDERS COMPLETE OPENING ROUND OF KIAWAH ISLAND CLASSIC

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team sits in 30th place through Sunday's opening round at the Kiawah Island Classic.

The tournament, which spans three days, features 53 teams, making it the largest collegiate golf tournament in the nation. College of Charleston has two teams in the field, though its 'B' team will not count when it comes to team score.

Jayde Dudley leads the Highlanders and is in a tie for 18th overall at even-par after shooting a 72. Dudley had a pair of birdies on the front nine and her 14 pars were tied for the seventh-most in the first round.

Sidney Walker and Natalie Welsh led Radford with four birdies apiece in the opening round. Walker, the reigning Big South Golfer of the Week, shot a 3-over 75 in the opening round, while Welsh sits at 9-over.

Rounding out the Highlander contingent, Beatriz Mosquera Quintas is currently 10-over, while Riko Nagai, in her first tournament of the spring season, is at 13-over.

College of Charleston leads the field after the opening day, shooting a team score of 7-under. Charleston Southern's Ellen Hume leads all players with a 5-under 67.

The Highlanders play the second round of the Kiawah Island Classic on Monday, looking to make a jump into the top half of the field. Tee times are currently TBD.
