RAPTIS’ CLINCHES SECOND STRAIGHT MATCH FOR HIGHLANDERS

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – After going down 3-2 against George Mason, Matko Varga and Konstantinos Raptis were the heroes of the day Wednesday afternoon for the Highlanders. Varga and Raptis came up clutch with victories on courts five and six to propel Radford to its eighth straight victory, and third in the last four days.

In singles play the Highlanders also got big wins on courts one and two from Demi Taramonlis and Yevhen Sirous respectively. The two dropped their games just the day before but bounced back in today's match to provide two crucial points. Taramonlis won his court in convincing fashion 6-4, 6-2 while Sirous battled and outlasted his opponent to win 1-6, 6-0, 10-5.

Courts three and five went to George Mason, but both were three set battles by Andres Silva and Rodrigo Magalhaes who would come up just short in their efforts.

Previously in the match the Patriots had taken the doubles point after an intense battle on court two. Taramonlis and Silva kept to their winning ways with a strong 6-2 win on court one while Raptis and William Crane came up short on court three. Magalhaes and Sirous fought hard but couldn't convert in a 6(4)-7 loss.

With George Mason winning 3-2, Radford moved its focus to court six where Matko was victorious to tie the match up and for the second straight night Raptis was on court five with the chance to win it for Radford and he did just that. The young freshman's impact has been immediate for the team riding who is riding eight straight victories. The freshman's record while on court five for Radford now stands at a strong 5-1 in dual play this spring.
