MIDDLE-INNING OFFENSE LEADS RADFORD TO THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

RADFORD, Va. – Radford scored seven runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings on Saturday afternoon on its way to an 8-2 win over Canisius at Carter Memorial Stadium.

The win was the third straight for the Highlanders (7-7), who have now won four of their last five. Canisius dropped to 3-10-1.

Radford opened the scoring in the fourth inning when David Bryant reached on an error that scored J.D. Mundy. Tanner Barrs hit a two-run single later in the inning to increase the lead to three.

Canisius got a run back in the fifth inning on a solo homer to right field, but the Highlanders struck for three more in the bottom half of the inning. Mundy singled home Anthony Galati to kick off Radford's three-run inning. A single by Bryant brought home Mundy for the second time in the game, and Colby Higgerson scored later in the inning on a passed ball.

The Golden Griffins added another run in the sixth on a groundout, but the Highlanders matched that with a Higgerson RBI single, which scored Galati. Radford added another run in the eighth on another Bryant RBI single, which scored Higgerson.

Brandon Donovan got the start for the Highlanders and went six innings, allowing two runs (both earned) while striking out six. Colin Reid earned the save, the first of his career, after allowing just two hits in three innings, striking out three.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Higgerson is 8-for-10 this series after a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Galati was hit by pitches three times, the most by anyone in a game since Straton Podaras was plunked four times in a 2018 contest versus Jacksonville State. Donovan has gone at least six innings in three of his four starts this season.
