Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Radford Rolls Past Campbell Thanks to Late Run

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – It was a back-and-forth affair for 40 minutes but the Radford men's basketball team rolled past Campbell, 67-61, on Wednesday night for their sixth straight victory.

The game featured five ties and 16 lead changes, but for Radford (10-6, 9-1 Big South) this comeback win was a little easier than the previous meeting's 16-point erased deficit. The Highlanders only trailed by five with 11:05 to play in the game. The five-point lead for Campbell was its largest of the game.

As the lead changed two more times over the next 6:20, it was Campbell (8-9, 4-6 Big South) with a two-point edge at 54-52 with 5:25 remaining. Lewis Djonkam hit a jumper that ignited an 8-0 run and gave Radford a 60-54 edge. The Highlander defense forced three Campbell turnovers during the run, which helped lead to the Highlanders largest advantage of the second half.

Nonetheless, Campbell hung around and cut the deficit to two points, 63-61, with 17 seconds remaining. Dravon Mangum was sent to the line four times in the last 17 ticks of the clock and knocked down all four free throws to earn his team-high 16th point and secure the Radford victory.

Mangum was one rebound away from another double-double and so was Lewis Djonkam with 10 points and nine rebounds. Chyree Walker contributed another 11 points and seven rebounds.

Radford dominated the rebounding category in first half, 19-6 and shot 50 percent from the floor. However, the Camels also shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and made six 3-pointers to keep it close at halftime, 35-32.

Campbell only made two 3-pointers in the second half and was held to just 22.2 percent from long range.

Quinton Morton-Robertson paced the Highlanders with nine first half points and a pair of 3-pointers. The lead changed eight times in the first half and Radford's largest lead of the game came in the first half when it led, 23-15, with 8:19 to play.

Tweet of the Game

Quotable
"I thought last night the brotherhood piece of our culture stood out with guys stepping up and picking each other up." Mike Jones opened. "Tonight, it was all about fighting for inches. Defensively we were a little more locked in, particularly in the second half. We executed our defensive gameplan tonight better than we did last night. We were able to get it done in regulation and I'm really proud of our team."
