Nagai Brings A-Game On First Day Of Buccaneer Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Radford Women's Golf team played the first and second rounds of the 2021 Buccaneer Classic on Monday and played well overall despite a miscue here or there.

On the Par 72, 6,200-yard Oak Point Golf Course, it was Riko Nagai who brought her A-game for the Highlanders. The senior shot 74 in the first round and 73 in the second round to finish the day tied for 22^nd at +3. The back nine proved challenging for her, but Nagai birdied three straight holes on the front nine of Round 1 to boost her performance.

Natalie Welsh and Jayde Dudley both shot +9 to end the day tied for 50^th after posting identical 75-78 scores. After beginning the day on the 10^th hole, Dudley got off to a strong start with birdies on 15 and 17 to get below par early on.

Niki Batac was just one stroke behind that duo, and currently sits alone in 52^nd at +10. The redshirt sophomore didn't mark a birdie on her first round scorecard, but came back strong in the second round with two.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mosdell was the final Radford representative on the leaderboard, coming in at 67^th. The first round was not kind to her, but she stayed composed and trimmed eight strokes off her score in the second round.

Coastal Carolina's Tiffany Arafi is the current leader at -12 and the Chanticleers (-14) hold a one-stroke lead over George Southern (-13) heading into the final round.

The Highlanders will play the third and final round of the tournament tomorrow, October 19. The day will begin with another 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and live results can be found on birdiefire.com.
