Highlanders Push Win Streak To Three Games With Win Over KCU

RADFORD, Va. – A hot shooting night up and down the roster propelled the Radford men's basketball team to a 79-70 victory over Kentucky Christian at Carilion Clinic Court in the Dedmon Center on Tuesday night.

The Highlanders (4-4, 0-0 Big South) have now won three straight games, topping their opponents by an average of 11 points across a three-game home stand. It was once again a true team effort as all 11 players who saw the floor scored for Coach Nichols' squad.

Senior guard Josiah Jeffers orchestrated much of the offensive output, tallying a career-high seven assists. As a team, Radford posted a season-best 21 assists, the first time it's reached the mark since dishing out 25 against Mars Hill on Dec. 9, 2020.

Cam McNeil led the scoring with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a pair of threes. Chyree Walker added 10 points and five rebounds to go with 10 points from Dravon Mangum.

Coming off such a high-intensity game against Eastern Kentucky just two nights ago, Radford struggled to find its form early in the game against KCU. The squads traded baskets for much of the first 12 minutes and the Knights took a 21-20 lead with 8:07 to go until halftime.

The Highlanders found another gear at that point, hitting nine of their next 10 shots to go on a 21-4 run that pushed their lead to 16 points as the game neared its midpoint. Kentucky Christian struck back with a short run of its own to pull within 10, 42-32, at halftime.

The second half played out much like the first, with each team going on runs that were quickly answered. Radford's lead grew to as many as 19 points before KCU went on a 10-0 run to make things interesting late. The Highlanders held off the comeback attempt and saw out the contest to secure the win.

Credit where credit is due as Kentucky Christian's Kourtney Ware and David Woodard proved to be two of the best players on the floor. Ware led all scorers with 33 points on 11-of-20 shooting, while Woodard poured in 23 points.
