RADFORD, Va. – Radford Athletics posted a 93% Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to the latest Division I GSR data released by the NCAA on Thursday. This is the fourth consecutive year the Highlanders have hit or surpassed the 90% mark.
"To graduate our student-athletes is at the top of our priority list," said Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Services Alix Guynn. "I want to thank our student-athletes for their dedication and commitment to the full student-athlete experience; they continue to excel in the classroom and graduate at a consistently high rate, year-in and year-out."
Nine different programs at Radford achieved a GSR of 90% or better while every single program graduated 80% or more of their respective student-athletes. In addition, six programs scored a perfect 100% in the report:
The Highlanders tied for the second-best GSR out of the 10 teams in the Big South Conference.
Guynn added that, "Much of our academic success can be credited to the support system we have in place - it is a true testament to the dedication of Asst. AD for SASS Allison McCoy and our LEC staff as well as the commitment by our coaches to recruit high quality student-athletes. Our university's overall effort in supporting our student-athletes in their pursuit of academic and competitive excellence is unmatched."
NCAA legislation requires member schools to report enrollment (of both student body and student-athletes receiving athletics aid) and student body and student-athlete graduation rates to the NCAA each year. The NCAA then publishes reports on behalf of the member schools to comply with federal reporting requirements.
The student-athlete graduation rate is calculated directly based on the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Graduation Rates Survey, which is the methodology the U.S. Department of Education requires. GSR is the proportion of first-year, full-time student-athletes who entered a school on athletics aid and graduated from that institution within six years.
This federal rate does not account for students who transfer from their original college or university and graduate elsewhere; they are considered non-graduates at both the college they left and the one from which they eventually graduate.
