Radford Falls to Charleston Southern in Series Finale

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford (2-2, 2-2 BSC) volleyball team fell to Charleston Southern (4-0, 4-0 BSC) in a Valentine's Day midday matchup. The Bucs' game two victory gives them the season series sweep over Highlanders.

Set One
The opening set was all Charleston Southern as the race to 25 quickly began with a series of Buccaneer rallies. The Highlanders couldn't quite find their footing to be able to dig into the visitor's lead. A swing of four points to Radford's one, led to the eventual 25-15 Buccaneer owning set.

Set Two
The Highlanders were able to match the pace of play in the early goings, trading points with the Buccaneers. However, a seven-point rally moved the deficit to 16-7 before a kill from Maddie Lentz broke the drought. Morgan Lawson's kill paired with that of her teammate, freshman, Tytianna Roberts' and a service ace from Lentz brought the margin to within five. Charleston Southern reached the 20-point mark with Radford responding with a three-point swing, 20-16.

The Buccaneers rounded out the set at 25-18.

Set Three
The Highlanders commenced the set on an attack error by the opposition and an ace for Brenna Ankrum. The Bucs tacked on a pair of points of their own to deadlock the set at two all. Going point-for-point for a while neither team could really pull away from one another. Lawson's kill and yet another Charleston Southern attack error positioned Radford within striking distance of two at 17-15. With momentum in their favor the Buccaneers were able to seal off the set against the Highlanders at 25-18.

Team Leaders
Lawson paced the offense for Radford with eight kills. The trifecta of Lentz, Erin Hetherington, and Ankrum all tallied aces. On the defensive side, Lawson led the team with three blocks. This is Hetherington's second consecutive match with double digit assists at 15. Grace Green's 11 digs now have her on a three-game streak with 10 or more.

Stat of The Match
Lawson tied her career-highs set in game one against the Bucs with eight kills. She tallied new highs in today's match with 9.5 points, five digs, and three blocks.
