Fah’Mir Ali Named to Big South All-Freshman Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced its annual award winners on Friday afternoon and Radford men's basketball's Fah'Mir Ali was named to the All-Freshman Team.
 
In his first year of collegiate play Ali has been a true bright spot on the team. His 10.3 points per game leads the team along with his 3.8 assists per outing. He's been the only Highlander to score more than 20 points a game and he's done so twice this season.
 
The Wilmington, Del., native has 1.6 steals in conference play, sixth most in the league and better than any freshman. Ali has 3.8 assists in Big South play, which is more than any freshman in the league and fifth overall.
 
Along with Ali's honor, Jordan Hemphill was named to the All-Academic Team. The 3.38 Communications major is set to graduate in the summer. The Bentonville, Arkansas native has appeared in nine games and has two starts – both against UNC Asheville. In those two starts he combined for 19 points and nine rebounds – with a season-best 11 points and five rebounds on Jan. 25.
 
Ali and company will begin their run for a Big South Tournament title at 6 p.m., inside the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders will take on the winner of No. 7 Hampton and No. 10 Presbyterian.
