Volleyball Drops Five Set Match to UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Radford volleyball team dropped a back-and-forth affair to UNC Asheville in five sets on Thursday afternoon inside the Justice Center.

The Highlanders took an early advantage in a 25-19 first set victory thanks to a .225 hitting percentage and four service errors. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs took the second set after a .313 hitting percentage and 14 kills.

Radford made adjustments and scored the final two points in the third set that put the Highlanders just one set win away from clinching the match. UNC Asheville had other plans as it hit .320 and tallied 12 kills and three blocks. Radford had a negative hit percentage and could only muster six kills as the match was sent to a fifth set.

The Highlanders had a 10-9 edge but the Bulldogs scored four in a row to take a 13-10 lead. Radford fought and cut the deficit to one, 14-13, but an attack error by the Highlanders ended the match.

Hailey Flowers tallied a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Taylor O'Neal led the squad with 11 digs and was one kills shy of a double-double. Setters Maddie Lentz and Erin Hetherington tallied 16 sets apiece. Flowers also led the team with a .387 hitting percentage.
