Radford Bounces Back in Win Over Presbyterian

RADFORD, Va. – Solid pitching and timely hitting gave the Radford baseball team a 12-5 victory over Presbyterian on Saturday at Carter Memorial Stadium.

Ryan Bywaters threw 106 pitches and only allowed three hits with four strikeouts through 5.2 innings. On the offensive side of things, Straton Podaras led the way with a 4-for-4 performance, while Dac Archer and Garrett Matheny tallied three RBIs.

Radford scored five runs in the third inning after Kyle Merkle hit a solo home run in the top half of the frame. In the inning, the Highlanders scored five runs on three hits and took advantage of one PC error.

Another Presbyterian home run in the fifth inning cut the Radford four-run lead to two, but Radford scored two more in the sixth to make it a 7-2 game. Presbyterian added three runs in the top of the seventh and the Highlanders added two more in the bottom half of the inning.

Alex Perkins came in and shut down the Blue Hose in the eighth and ninth innings. He was able to get three runs in the eighth by a Garrett Matheny two-run single and a David Bryant RBI-double to plate the 12th run.

Podaras was a home run shy of the cycle in his 4-for-4 day. He along with Bryant, Archer and Sean Cheely tallied a double in the game. Anthony Galati scored a team-high three runs.
