Highlanders Come Up Short in Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford (8-11) wcame up just short in an intense match with Charleston Southern (10-7) in the Big South Championship Sunday afternoon.

Charleston Southern wound up taking the doubles point early in the match to take a 1-0 early lead. Tyler Blalock and Katey Fruehauf were up 5-3 on court three before play stopped, on the verge of taking a court for Radford.

From there, Radford started off singles play on a very strong note. Malin Falk was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court three to give Radford its first singles court. Charleston Southern would take the next three courts, though, taking the match in the process.

It took a hard fight on court four from Emily Brandow who won the first set before a match that could've gone either way fell the Buccaneers' way for the clinch. Camryn McClure had also battled back to force a third set on court six against a player for Charleston Southern who played mostly on court one a year ago.

Salma Loudili had won her first set on court one before play stopped in an intense battle with Charleston Southern's best. The Highlanders were within reach of swinging the match in their favor, but came up short late in a hard fought battle.
