Radford Dominates Presbyterian in Regular Season Finale

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (5-11, 4-2 BSC) closed out its regular season with a big win against Presbyterian (0-0, 0-0 BSC) amassing 17 goals to just four from the opponent.

The Highlanders didn't let the cold weather affect them as they stormed out of the gate with seven straight goals in the first ten minutes. It was the typical faces of the Highlanders' offense fueling the push, started off by Jennifer Shield recording back-to-back goals unassisted.

From there Grace Gleason scored her 18th of the season, and Ava Goeller found the net after a nice pass from Shield for her first goal of the day. With a 4-0 lead, Kirsten Grzybowski got into the scoring fun with a goal and then assisted another Goeller goal just two minutes later. The final goal of the 7-0 run came from G. Gleason once again, this time assisted by Lindsey Carroll.

Presbyterian would notch their first goal of the game with 18 minutes left in the half, but Radford responded with two more goals from Shield and Goeller. Presbyterian scored while a man up hoping to close the half on a high note, but Radford punched right back as Carroll notched her 25th goal of the season.

In the second half Radford wasted no time getting a running clock with a ten point lead. Ashlyn Grogan provided the first goal, while Goeller eclipsed the 30-goal mark of the season with her fourth of the afternoon.

Radford had some new faces enter the game and many Highlanders started to find their first goals of the season. A familiar face in Katie Bendrick did get her first goal of the season off a free position shot. Libby Bowman was next scoring not just her first goal as a Highlander, but second as well to help push the score to a final 17-4.

The win is the largest margin of victory for the Highlanders this season, and caps off a strong finish to the regular season winning five of the last seven. Goeller and Shield both recorded hat tricks with four goals each fueling a majority of the offense on the day. G. Gleason, Grzybowski, and Bowman all recorded multi-goal games as well.

Defensively Bendrick was also a force for the team, causing a team-high three turnovers and winning ten draw controls. Presbyterian turned the ball over 20 times in the match while Radford played quite cleanly to the tune of just five turnovers. Radford also went 16-17 in clear attempts and picked up 20 ground balls to Presbyterian's 17.
