Womens Golf Tees Off At William & Mary Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Radford Women's Golf team teed off for the first time in 2021 on Sunday, playing 36 holes in the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Resort. The River Course is a Par 72 which spans 6,219 yards.

Senior Natalie Welsh (+7) led the way for the Highlanders, shooting a 77 in the first round and a 74 in the second round to finish the day sitting tied for 33rd in a field of 79 players. The Valencia, Pa. native racked up seven birdies, including back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes to begin her second round.

Freshmen duo Caleigh Street and Kaitlyn Mosdell got their feet wet against collegiate competition for the very first time, posting scores of +9 and +13 respectively.Â

Street struggled a bit in the first round, but came back strong in the second round and moved up 12 spots in the standings thanks to a 74, including a birdie on the 18th hole which she had triple-bogeyed her first time around. Mosdell's day was highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 17th hole during her second round of play.

Senior Riko Nagai (+17) and junior Jayde Dudley (+24) rounded out Radford's scoring. Redshirt sophomore Niki Batac joined the fray as an individual, finishing the first two rounds at 14 over par.

As a team, the Highlanders sunk 18 birdies and showed improvement as the day went on, slashing 10 strokes off of their second-round score compared to the first round.

The Highlanders return to the course for their final 18 holes of the tournament tomorrow morning. There will once again be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with live results posted on golfstat.com.
