Radford Drops Opening Day Matches at Old Dominion Tournament

NORFOLK, VA. - The Radford University Volleyball team opened their tournament at Old Dominion Friday afternoon with two close losses against Old Dominion and Norfolk State.

Radford vs. Old Dominion Recap
Old Dominion took a commanding lead in the first set, but Radford battled back late to tie it at 21-all. The Monarchs would hold on to win the first set, but Radford kept the momentum going into the second set which they won 25-22. Old Dominion was able to close out the match from there, though, in two close finishes 25-21 and 25-22.

KEY STATS
  • Kennedi Johnson and Hailey Flowers both recorded double-digit kill totals at 10 each. Emily Dykes just missed joining them with nine kills.
  • Grace Green started her strong day of serving with two aces while Login Williams also picked up two aces of her own.
  • To go along with her 10 kills, Johnson also totaled five block assists finishing the match with a team-high 12.5 points.

Radford vs. Norfolk State Recap
Radford stormed out in front of the second match of the day winning the first two sets in convincing fashion. Norfolk State didn't go away quietly as they won the third and fourth sets to force a deciding fifth set.
 
Radford trailed early in the fifth set but fought back late to tie it at 13-all. It was Norfolk State who would come out victorious in the end however, winning two straight points to take the set 15-13.

KEY STATS
  • Flowers blew away her career single-game high for kills with 21 kills. Her total count of kills on the day finished at 31.
  • Radford totaled five more service aces than Norfolk State with Green and Johnson both recording three.
  • Johnson and Young both recorded double-digit kills while Taylor Moore and Green both finished with double-digit digs.
UP NEXT
The Highlanders will be back in action early tomorrow morning for a 10 a.m. first serve against Buffalo. It'll be the Highlanders final nonconference match of the regular season.
