RADFORD, Va. – A three-pronged attack from
Grace Tulevech,
Crystal Childs, and
Tytianna Roberts helped guide the Radford volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville at the Dedmon Center on Friday night.
With the win, the Highlanders move to 8-14 overall and 4-6 in Big South play while the Bulldogs drop to 3-16 on the season, including a lowly 0-9 conference record.
Tulevech dominated above the net all night, recording a season-high 18 kills on 44 attack attempts. Childs did most of her damage late in the match, finishing with 11 kills on 35 attempts. And Roberts was extremely efficient when her number was called, tallying 10 kills on 17 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage.
It wasn't just those three who made the Highlanders so dangerous on the night, however.
Tori Britton (8 kills),
Sophie Paspal (7 kills) and
Taylor Jefferson (6 kills) also made a major impact on the final score.
The defensive effort from
Shelby Hernandez and
Jackeline Nerro can't be overlooked. Even after a tough first set went UNC Asheville's way, the two of them kept the Highlanders playing hard and within striking distance. The duo ended the night with 21 and 17 digs, respectively.
Nerro easily set a new career high in assists as well, passing out 37 assists to her teammates. Her previous high was 26 against UT Martin in the season opener.
