Women’s Tennis Begins Fall Season with Good Results at NCCU Invite

DURHAM, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis program opened up their Fall Tournament season with some quality individual wins at the NCCU Invite this weekend.

On Friday Radford got things going with a host of matches in singles play. Newcomer Julia Abrams picked up her first win as a Highlander by defeating an opponent from North Carolina A&T 6-3, 6-0. Camryn McClure also picked up a singles win 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 over her North Carolina Central opponent. Rounding out the day's victors was Rachel Ekanem who picked up her first collegiate victory 6-2, 6-2 over Chowan. Brooke Murphy, Emily Brandow and Lexi Smolder also saw their first action of the Fall season in hard-fought matches.

On Saturday the primary focus became doubles play for the Highlanders. Three duos teams were competitive against a challenging field with the duo of Julia Abrams and Emily Brandow picking up the big win of the day over Western Carolina 6-4.

The Highlanders will be back in action in a couple weeks when the team heads to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the ITA Regionals between October 20^th and October 24^th.
