HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford volleyball team hung tough against one of the top squads in the Big South Conference, but dropped Friday night's match, 3-0, against High Point.
Sophie Paspal and
Tytianna Roberts were the Highlanders' greatest bright spots in the match, recording nine and eight kills respectively. Paspal had a .304 hitting percentage on 23 attack attempts while Roberts did even better with a .538 hitting percentage on just 13 chances.
Shelby Hernandez led the team with 13 digs and served up three aces, matching her season high which she has now done three different times on the year.
Jackeline Nerro posted her fourth straight double-double and sixth overall on the season, giving Radford 15 assists and 11 digs in another strong effort for the freshman. Fellow setter
Fiona Baker matched her with 15 assists as well.
The first set featured a pair of major runs by each team. The Panthers shot out to a 16-7 lead thanks to a 7-0 points streak, but the Highlanders answered with a 7-2 run of their own to tie things at 21-all. Backed onto its heels, HPU barely hung on to take the 1-0 lead.
Radford showed that the close first set was no fluke as it gave High Point all it could handle in a 25-19 second set. Then the Panthers closed things out with a 25-13 win in the third set.
