Men’s Tennis Opens Season Strong

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (1-0) and Bluefield State College opened their 2022 spring seasons Tuesday afternoon with the Highlanders coming out victorious 6-1 in the opener and leading 2-0 in game two before play was suspended.

In game one the Highlanders took care of business with the doubles point winning all three courts. Andres Silva and Konstantinos Raptis picked up the 7-6(4) win on court one while Robert Hagen made his spring doubles debut with Aditya Balsekar and the pairing won 6-4 to clinch. William Crane and Manfredi Vergine were the first to finish for Radford, picking up a 6-3 win.

Moving on to singles play, the Highlanders were dominant. Raptis finished first with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two while Silva picked up his first collegiate win on court one 7-5, 6-3. Balsekar clinched the match for Radford on court three 6-4, 7-6(2). Hagen picked up a win on court four 6-4, 6-4 while Vergine debuted on court six and won easily 6-0, 6-3.

In game two the game was suspended as the sun dipped too low and visibility got too dark. Radford was able to take the doubles point with wins by Silva and Raptis on court one and Hagen and Balsekar on court two. Silva was the only Highlander to finish his court as he picked up another win on court one. Balsekar came close to finishing up another win on court three, as play suspended with a 6-0, 5-0 lead.
