HAMPTON, Va. – The Radford men's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit in a hostile environment to earn a 60-54 victory over Hampton inside the Convocation Center on Saturday evening.
Trailing 36-34 with 15 minutes left in the game, the floodgates opened for the Highlanders (8-16, 4-8 Big South).
Tai'Reon Joseph drew a foul and knocked down both free throws to begin a 16-0 run that spanned more than seven minutes of game action. The run finally came to an end when Najee Garvin split the Radford defense for a tough layup in traffic.
By the 7:26 mark, Radford had taken a 50-36 lead over the Pirates (7-16, 3-9 Big South). The Highlanders went cold down the stretch, going more than four minutes without a field goal, but the defense held strong and secured the win.
Artese Stapleton led all players with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, matching his career high performance from earlier this season against Longwood.
Dravon Mangum contributed nine points while
Josiah Jeffers and
Rashun Williams had seven each.
Marquis Godwin was the most dangerous player on the floor for the Pirates, scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. DeAngelo Epps also made five shots, accumulating 11 points.
