More Track Records Fall at Liberty, Roanoke

LYNCHBURG / ROANOKE, Va. –  Across two meets, the Radford women's track and field program had a strong showing Friday and Saturday with eight athletes notching PRs and two school records going down.

Hannah Moran once again led the way, this time at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitate, as she broke yet another school record with her time of 9:38.51 in the 3,000m. In addition to Moran as an individual, the distance medley relay team of Chloe Wellings, Brianna Krug, Maddie Wright and Moran shattered the school record with their 11:51.56 performance.

For Moran, despite being in the second heat of the 3,000 meters she was able to find just enough pace to give herself a shot at the school record. After a slow start, Moran started to pick up the pace midway through the race and coming into the final 200-meter lap, needed a 35.76 final lap to nab the record. Moran was able to turn on the jets and register a 35.619 to place her name atop the record book.

In the same event, Chloe Wellings had another superb day. She improved once again upon her 3,000-meter PR with a time of 9:56.21. That performance moved Wellings up to third in Radford history in the event and made her just the third Highlander woman ever to go under 10 minutes over 3,000 meters indoors.

In the DMR, Chloe Wellings took leg one and went 1,200 meters in 3:40.2, Wright followed with a 1:00.9 400, Krug covered 800m in 2:19.9 and Moran brought the Highlanders home in 4:50.6. The total time took down the school record by over six seconds from 11:57.86 to 11:51.56.

In the women's triple jump it was Kelsey Arnold notching the 10th best mark in school history with a jump of 10.89m (35-8.75).

MegAnne Gilmore moved up more in the women's mile record book with a time of 5:10.97, moving up three spots to seventh in school history.

Over in Roanoke at the Roanoke Invitational, Bayle Wood and Austin Swallow both advanced to finals in the weight throw and both snagged PRs with throws of 13.45m and 13.24m, respectively.

During the weekend, Julia Burkley, Savannah Hoff, Wood, Swallow, Gilmore, Arnold, Wellings and Moran all notched personal bests.

Quotable
"I am very happy with how our team raced this weekend," said Director of Track & Field Shelli Sayers. "Again, we are leaving a meet with multiple PRs, season bests, plus two school records. We are in a great position heading into the conference meet."
