Bucknell Takes Series Finale From Radford 10-2

Radford, Va. – On the strength of an eight-run fourth inning, the Bucknell Bison downed the Radford baseball team 10-2 in the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Carter Memorial Stadium.

After a scoreless first two and a half innings, Radford (2-5) found pay dirt in the bottom of the third. With one out, center fielder Dudley Taw singled and then stole second base. Third baseman Zach Whitacre then laced an RBI single up the middle to give the Highlanders the lead.

However, the advantage proved to be short-lived, as the Bison (2-4) responded with an offensive onslaught in the following frame. The visitors struck for eight runs on six hits, highlighted by Logan Kellerman's three-run double that gave Bucknell a 3-1 lead, one which they would not relinquish.

Austin Odell (1-1) earned the win for the Bison, allowing two earned runs in seven innings of work. He scattered five hits and did not walk a batter.

Alex Perkins started for Radford and delivered a second consecutive scoreless outing in his brief day of work. The senior right hander pitching a clean first inning, working around a hit by pitch.

On the day, Radford used six bullpen arms. Freshman Foster Seitz impressed in his extended appearance, pitching two scoreless innings with only a hit and no walks surrendered.

Will Trochiano also made the most of his two at-bats, recording two hits off the bench. The graduate transfer from Manhattan pinch hit for Ty Dooley in the sixth inning and immediately laced a double down the left field line for his first hit as a Highlander.

  • Taw recorded his first stolen base of the season.
  • Radford pitchers gave up just two earned runs over the final six innings.
