4/13/2022 6:23:00 PM | Women's Golf
NINETY SIX, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team got strong performances from Natalie Welsh and Jimenna Ramirez and are in ninth place through one round at the 2022 Big South Championships.
Â
Playing at the familiar Patriot Golf Club, Welsh and Ramirez each shot a 5-over par 77 to slide into a tie for 19th out of 55 golfers in the tournament.
Â
The duo accounted for two out of three birdies carded by the Highlanders on the day and they also combined to score a par on 24 holes. Meanwhile, they only suffered set-backs worse than a bogey on two holes in a tournament where minimizing big mistakes can make a massive difference.
Â
Freshman Caleigh Street earned the start in her first ever trip to Conference and she has held her own, shooting a 7-over par 79.
Â
Riko Nagai and Jayde Dudley battled through tough days, and currently stand at +11 and +17 for T-49th and 53rd places, respectively. Dudley's day was highlighted by a birdie on the fifth hole, giving her something to build on over the next two rounds.
Â
USC Upstate leads the pack at +10 while Charleston Southern's Caroline Engelbredt is atop the individual leaderboard at +1.
