Highlanders Hold Off Blue Hose

CLINTON, S.C. - The Radford women's lacrosse team defeated Presbyterian College 13-10 on Saturday to earn their first Big South Conference victory of the season. Grace Gleason lead the way with four goals and three draw controls while Ashlyn Grogan provided two goals and two assists.

Gleason did not stop with the scoring, securing three draw controls and picking up one ground ball as well.

After Grogan opened the scoring, the game went back and forth for the first thirty minutes with the teams trading goals to a six-all tie at halftime.

In the third quarter the Highlanders pull away, shutting out the Blue Hose and pouring in four goals of their own. Linley Tirrell, Jessica Diorio, Margaret Gleason - who also recorded three assists - and Grace Gleason provided the goals to bust the game open.

In the fourth quarter, goals by Grogan and River Rupert extended the lead before Presbyterian finally found second-half scoring. Diorio scored again to make the score 13-7 before the Blue Hose scored the last three.

As a part of the first half scoring, defender Josie Helpard scored her first career goal, in a woman-down situation no less, while Carlie Rosenburg notched a goal for the second straight game.

In the goal, Olivia Hunter once again provided a strong performance with 12 goals for a .545 save percentage. Laura Ferko also had a stellar outing with four draw controls and two ground balls.
