BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Catcher
Julian Rojas hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Radford baseball team fell to Campbell 14-7 on Friday evening at Jim Perry Stadium.
With Radford trailing 7-6 entering the top half of the seventh, third baseman
Bradlee Preap got on board with a leadoff hit by pitch. Three batters later, Rojas launched a homer to right, giving the visitors an 8-7 lead after Campbell had recently struck with three runs in the sixth inning.
For the night, Rojas went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
However, the advantage was short-lived, as the Fighting Camels (36-16, 20-3 Big South) bursted out for eight runs in the home half of the frame. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Zach Neto, as well as a home run by Drake Pierson that also drove in a pair.
Like Thursday night's contest, the Highlanders (15-33, 8-15) struck early and often, touching home plate five times in the second inning. Designated hitter
James Taussig got the scoring started, hitting a two-run moonshot over the right field wall that put his team ahead 2-0. Second baseman
Ty Dooley also checked in with a two-RBI double to give Radford a 5-0 lead.
Campbell, however, was able to chip away, scoring twice in the fifth, while holding the Highlanders to just two runs over the final seven innings.
Starter
John Holobetz did have an impressive outing, allowing just three earned runs over five innings while fanning six Camels. The Highlanders were hurt by three errors, which led to five unearned Campbell runs.
Ty Cummings (2-1) earned the win for Campbell, tossing 2.2 innings in relief.
Ty Burton (2-3) took the loss for Radford.
