Over the summer, the Radford baseball program had several players that impressed during their respective collegiate summer league seasons. There were a total of nine Highlanders that saw playing time, including five hitters and four position players.
OF Cameron Pittman
Pittman continued where he left off after a fantastic freshman season, posting a .390/.474/.470 slash line for the Martinsville Mustangs of the Coastal Plain League. In 27 games, Pittman recorded a team-high 39 hits with 12 RBI and 17 stolen bases. The Virginia Beach, Va. native also put together a 14-game hitting streak in July.
C Brendan Bagwell
Bagwell also played for Martinsville, appearing in 15 games for the Mustangs over the summer. Bagwell showed a keen eye at the plate, drawing 14 walks to just 15 strikeouts. The redshirt sophomore recorded a walk in five of his last seven games, and had a four-walk performance against the Peninsula Pilots on June 20.
RHP Gene McGough
McGough put up impressive numbers for the Auburn Doubledays of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, posting a 3.48 ERA across 33.2 innings of work. He made nine starts, tied for most on the club, and recorded 53 strikeouts, averaging over 14 K/9. A redshirt sophomore, McGough had three starts with at least nine strikeouts, and held opposing hitters to a .198 batting average against.
C Julian Rojas
Rojas earned a ring as a member of the Charlottesville Tom Sox, who won the 2022 Valley Baseball League championship. In 16 games, Rojas tallied six RBI and four walks, while throwing out four base stealers. The Humble, Texas native had a two-hit, four-RBI game against Staunton on June 6.
LHP Gannon Kadlecik
Kadlecik appeared in six games for the North Shore Navigators, a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Kadlecik did not allow an earned run over 7.2 innings, holding opponents to a .167 batting average. The sophomore also notched three strikeouts.
RHP William Flanagan
Flanagan spent his summer pitching for the Keene Swamp Bats, another member of the NECBL. In seven outings, Flanagan recorded a 3.37 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 16.0 innings. Opposing batters hit just .172 against the Highlanders' senior.
INF Zack Whitacre
After recovering from an injury sustained during the college season, Whitacre appeared in 18 games for Keene, playing alongside his teammate Flanagan. He tallied five walks and an RBI, scoring three runs in a game against Winnipesaukee on June 9.
INF Ryan Gilmore
Following an impressive junior season in Radford, Gilmore played in three games for the Bristol State Liners of the Appalachian League. He collected two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base.
RHP Will Hunt
Hunt also played for Bristol, making nine appearances and four starts. The sophomore struck out 18 batters across 20 innings of work.
