RADFORD, Va. – Radford Athletics has partnered with 3 Daughters Media/Virginia Talk Radio Network to extend its coverage of Highlander men's basketball games to a much wider listenership in Southwest and Central Virginia.
"We're very excited to announce this partnership and bring an unprecedented level of coverage to our fans during such a great time for our basketball programs," said Director of Broadcasting Rick Watson. "This is something we have wanted to do for quite some time, and I want to thank 3 Daughters Media, as well as our administration, for helping us make it a reality."
The new coverage map now includes the following stations:
These new stations are in addition to the existing flagship station, WRAD 101.7 FM/103.5 FM and WVRU 89.9 FM for Radford men's basketball. Radford women's basketball can still be heard on WRAD 103.5 FM and 1460 AM. Fans can also tune in to listen live on Stretch Internet, hosted by RadfordAthletics.com.
NETWORK HISTORY
In 1988, Radford University became one of the first NCAA Division I schools to bring its basketball broadcasts in-house. In the process, Radford became a pioneer in college sports broadcasting, and created the foundation which helped establish the Radford Sports Network as a leader in collegiate sports broadcasting.
The Network has been the starting point for several well-respected voice talents, including Wes Durham, current play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports and ACC Network, and Dave Hunziker, current voice of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Voice of the Highlanders, Rick Watson, leads all men's basketball broadcasts while Tom Purvis can be heard calling all women's basketball contests.
