BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Radford baseball team dropped their first of two midweek games this week, falling to No. 11 Virginia Tech 17-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
The Highlanders (2-6) saw contributions from
Sully Tibbs, who went 1-for-2 with a two-run double in the seventh inning that helped Radford avoid a shutout. Also highlighting the stat sheet was third baseman
Zack Whitacre, who went 2-for-5.
In total, 20 Highlanders saw action in the game, including seven pitchers. Lefthander
Ty Burton delivered a scoreless 1.2 innings out of the bullpen, striking out three batters, while
Landon Higgerson also added two scoreless frames.
Virginia Tech (6-2) was buoyed offensively by Chris Cannizzaro, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Christian Worley was the winning pitcher for the Hokies.
UP NEXT
Radford will have a quick turnaround as they travel another ACC foe in NC State on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for at 3 p.m. and the game can be streamed on ACCNX.
