GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis program fell in a tough one Thursday afternoon 7-0 to a solid UNC Greensboro squad.
The evening began with a tightly contested doubles point between the two squads. UNC Greensboro would take court two, but Radford had an equalizer thanks to a dominant 6-2 win by Camryn McClure and Ameek Batth. It came down to a tiebreaker on the top flight as Emily Brandow and Julia Abrams battled. UNC Greensboro was able to gain the slight edge 7-6(6) and take the 1-0 advantage in the match.
Radford had another pair of close singles matches on courts three and four. Brandow bounced back with a huge tiebreaker win in the first set 7-6(6) but another tiebreaker in the second set didn't go her way 6(6)-7. In the deciding set Brandow continued to battle and came up just short 11-9. McClure also went three sets on court four after winning her first set 6-4. The tiebreaker third set was close once again, but UNC Greensboro took the court 10-8.
The Highlanders focus moves to this weekend where they have a morning match-up with East Carolina scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.
