Smolder Collects Strong Singles Victory at Elon

ELON, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis program fell to a strong Elon squad Friday afternoon to a final score of 6-1 with freshman Lexi Smolder highlighting with a big win on court three singles.
Elon would take the doubles point for the early advantage in the match, but the Highlanders were competitive. Radford was strong especially on court one where Julia Abrams and Emily Brandow were up 3-2 before going unfinished.
In singles play Smolder was excellent in dispatching her opponent on court three with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Smolder's opponent typically plays a court higher for the Phoenix and had four singles wins there this season. Rachel Ekanem was also trying to force a comeback on court six singles before falling 0-6, 5-7.
The Highlanders will be back in action next Monday when they play host to Bluefield State with a 1 p.m. first serve.
