Softball Falls in Extras at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The Radford softball program fell in a tight extra innings game Wednesday afternoon, 2-1 in nine innings against Presbyterian.
Radford and Presbyterian were locked in a pitcher's duel for a majority of Wednesday's meeting before both offenses finally broke the ice in the ninth inning. Radford freshmen pitcher Chloe Greene was masterful all afternoon cutting through Presbyterian's offense for eight shutout innings.
Despite being no-hit for the first eight innings of the game, Radford's offense did have some scoring opportunities come up just short. Averee Atkins and Lexie Roberts both drew walks in the third inning but were stranded. In the fifth inning Cassi Barbato and Atkins drew walks while Qween Edmonds reached on an error to load the bases. Radford was held scoreless once again, however, and wouldn't cross home plate until the ninth inning.
Abby Wilson struck the Highlanders first hit of the day with one out in the ninth. With two outs in the inning, Radford finally broke the ice as Kari Shedrick doubled to left scoring Wilson and giving themselves a 1-0 lead. Shedrick would steal third and Barbato added a hit but the Highlanders weren't able to add any more insurance. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Presbyterian hit a two-run homer that would walk-off the game.
UP NEXT
Radford is right back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader at Presbyterian starting at noon. It'll be the Highlanders final action of the week before returning home for a doubleheader against UNC Greensboro next week.
