ROCK HILL, S.C. – Olivia Flanagan reached double-digit kills for the second time this season as the Radford volleyball team dropped a Big South Conference match, 3-1, at Winthrop on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Radford drops to 1-11 (0-3 Big South) on the year while Winthrop improves to 3-11 (2-1 Big South) thanks to wins in three of their last four outings.
Flanagan, a junior transfer from Jackson State, returned to the starting lineup and delivered with a team-high 10 kills on 22 attack attempts for a .227 hitting percentage. Her season high remains 13, which she recorded in a win against Iona.
Fellow transfer
Sydney Mundkowsky, who made her way to the NRV from Angelo State, was right behind her teammate with nine kills on 27 total attacks.
The Highlanders were the team to take a 1-0 lead in this one, thanks to a bit of an unusual first set. Nine of the first 12 points scored by either team were the result of an error and the Eagles racked up 10 attack errors by the end of the frame. On the other hand, Radford tallied 14 kills and three blocks, their best outputs all day.
Winthrop regrouped after its tough first set, however, and hastily knotted the match at 1-1 with a 25-8 win in the second set.
The two teams diverged in their success above the net, with Radford dropping the next to sets to fall in the match. The Highlanders finished with 39 kills and 28 attack errors while the Eagles ultimately rebounded for 56 kills and 16 attack errors.
NOTABLES
- Sophie Paspal led the Highlanders with three total blocks
- Shelby Hernandez was responsible for both of Radford's service aces
