RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's basketball program returned to its winning ways with a near school-record performance as the Highlanders blew out Virginia-Lynchburg by a 122-63 margin inside the Dedmon Center on Friday afternoon.
The 122 points scored were the second most for Radford in a game played at Dedmon. The Highlanders missed out on tying the school record by just two points, which they set in a 124-109 win over Emory & Henry all the way back on January 7, 2008.
The 64 first half points were also the third-most scored by the Highlanders inside Dedmon in program history. It was the most points scored in a half in nearly nine years in a contest played at Radford.
It was all Highlanders in this one in a game that featured just two lead changes (one being Radford taking a 2-0 lead 15 seconds into the contest). Virginia-Lynchburg was able to take a 3-2 advantage at the 19:20 mark of the first half, but it was all Highlanders from that point on.
Radford went on a 33-12 run to make it a 20-point contest at 35-15 with 9:23 left to go in the opening frame. The Highlanders finished the opening 20 minutes with another 30-17 advantage to make it a 63-29 game at the half.
Like the first period, it was all Radford in the second half as the Highlanders opened on a 20-14 edge to make it a 40-point game at 83-43 with 11:49 left to play. Radford then made it a 50-point contest with a 103-53 advantage at the 5:19 mark, a little over six minutes of action later.
A tired Virginia-Lynchburg squad was never able to get within 50 points again as the Highlanders cruised to the 122-63 victory.
