ATLANTA, Ga. - Highlanders lost an early lead to fall to Georgia Tech 6-3 in the series finale on Sunday Afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Highlanders would find themselves up early in today's contest after a solid start in the first as Conner Butler got things started as he was able to advance to first after a walk and advanced to second after a single to center field by Zack Whitacre. Drew Biggerstaff singled to rightfield to bring him home to give the Highlanders the early 1-0 lead. Jordan Irizarry would start on the mound retiring three Yellow Jackets in a row leaving Georgia Tech hitless in the clean inning.
In the second, Jordan Irizarry continued his impressive performance as he once again retired three batters in a row to preserve the Highlanders' 1-0 lead and keep the Yellow Jackets at bay with another hitless inning.
In the third, The Highlanders would tack on to their lead as Cameron Pittman doubled to left field and advanced to third off a single by Butler. Zack Whitacre would soon after single one to the pitcher and steal another to reach second. Drew Biggerstaff would once more come in to bring the two home as he doubled to left center to make the score 3-0 for the Highlanders and earn his fourth RBI of the season. However, the Yellow Jackets would finally respond with a grand slam for them to jump out in front with the 4-3 lead.
In the fourth and fifth, the Yellow Jackets scored a single run in each inning to extend their lead to 6-3.
The final four innings was a pitcher's duel, as neither side brought in a run. Raymond Ladd had an impressive sixth, recording two strikeouts.
