Women’s Tennis Sweeps Bluefield State to Open Home Schedule

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford women's tennis picked up a solid 7-0 victory over Bluefield State Tuesday afternoon in their home opener.

To open the afternoon, Radford started with taking both doubles courts they competed on. After Bluefield State forfeited court three, Radford got its first win from Brooke Murphy and Ameek Batth who sept their match 6-0 on court two. Julia Abrams and Lexi Smolder won 6-4 on court one to seal the 1-0 advantage going into singles.

Playing on just four courts, Radford would complete the sweep with wins on courts one, two, three and four. Murphy was first to finish as she didn't drop a single game in both singles and doubles winning 6-0, 6-0 on court four to clinch the match 4-0.

Rachel Ekanem followed Murphy with a win on court three also in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Michaela Stephens played her first match on the top flight this season and delivered a strong 6-0, 6-4 win. Emily Brandow fought back after trailing 4-1 in her second set to come all the way back and win in straight sets 6-2, 7-6.

The Highlanders are back on the road for their next match this Saturday, February 24th, at Wofford with a noon start.
