Highlanders Drop First Midweek of The Season Against Virginia Tech

RADFORD, Va. - The Radford Baseball team dropped their first midweek contest of season 14-4 against Virginia Tech on Tuesday evening at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.

Virginia Tech would start things off with an early lead after the Hokies' Chris Cannizzaro would hit a thee-run homerun to center to get the 3-0 lead. The Hokies would add two more runs to their lead making it 5-0 before heading to the bottom of the inning.

Radford would respond with two runs of their own with a Cameron Pittman single to shortstop followed by a Conner Butler double to left center that would allow Pittman to reach third. Pittman found home on a Zack Whitacre groundout, allowing Butler to find third base in the process. Carson Bell would follow up with a groundout of his own that would bring Butler in for the score and inch the Highlanders closer to Virginia Tech but still trail at 5-2.

In the third, the Hokies would put up three more runs to their total and add on another in the fourth that would push their lead to 9-2.

Heading to the fifth the Hokies would pull away piling on their final five runs of this evening's contest making it 14-2 heading into the sixth.

A Zack Whitacre homerun in the sixth and a double to left center by Corbin Grantham to draw in Austin Stalker in the seventh would be the last two runs of the evening for the Highlanders as the last two remaining innings would see both teams go scoreless leaving today's final score at 14-4.
