GREENSBORO, N.C - The Radford Baseball team fell in both games of the doubleheader to UNC Greensboro that would see the Spartans secure the series over the Highlanders Saturday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
GAME ONE
For the first inning of today's game one of the doubleheader the Highlanders would get off to a hot start, putting up to four runs in the inning. Stalker would pick up right where he left off as he was able to single through the left side to drive in Carson Bell for the first run of the game and advance Conner Butler to third, Mason Self would single to left field bringing Butler home for the second run, Hunter Keen would keep the momentum going as he would single to center field to allow Stalker to give Radford their third run of the game, and Corbin Grantham would single up the middle to have the Highlanders up 4-0 heading to the bottom of the inning. The Spartans would respond in the bottom of the inning, getting one back to make the game 4-1.
From the second to the fifth the Highlanders would lock into a pitcher's duel with the Spartans. Dylan Howard and the Radford defense would excel in the innings as Howard would record four strikeouts and allow only four hits to leave the Spartans off the board in those innings. However, UNC Greensboro would take the lead as they were able to add on five runs in the sixth to make it 6-4 going to the seventh. In the seventh, Gavin Troutman would find himself second base and Ben Williams would double to right center to allow Troutman to find home and make it a one score game at 6-5. But the Spartans tacked on another run in the same inning to give themselves some distance.
The Highlanders would once more make it a one run game after Brady Whitacre would double to right center to allow Self to easily find home and leave the top of the inning at 7-6. But UNC Greensboro would add on their final two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a three-run game and finish the first game of the doubleheader at 9-6 and allowing the Spartans to even the series.
GAME TWO
In the first inning of game two of the doubleheader UNC Greensboro would add on the first run of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, the Spartans would add on six more runs to push their lead to 7-0. They added another in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-0.
But the Highlanders would get one back as Ben Williams would homer to left field to make it 8-1 and give Williams his third home run of the season. But in the bottom of the inning, UNC Greensboro added nine more to their lead and finished out the second game of the doubleheader at 17-1.
