Radford’s Defense Bends, Doesn't Break, in Draw Against #23 Gardner-Webb

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford men's soccer program used an incredible defensive effort Saturday afternoon to draw a tie with nationally-ranked Gardner-Webb and earn a hard fought point in the Big South standings.

KEY STATS
  • Ben Miller's 8 saves in this game set his new season and career high for the Highlanders
  • Radford's defense was kept busy with 17 shots from Gardner-Webb. However, they didn't concede any goals
  • Both teams were physical, leading to both having 8 fouls, with Radford's Tyler Pulik earning his first yellow card of the season

PLAY BY PLAY
The Runnin' Bulldogs started the game out with control over possession. The slow pace and quick passing kept the ball out of the Highlanders' way early on. This resulted in the Bulldogs having six shots, with two of them being on goal. However, Miller kept the Highlanders in the game, saving both scoring opportunities from the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Gardner-Webb started the second half the same as the first, controlling the pace of the game. Looking to build the pressure, they put up 11 shots in this half, with six of them being on goal. The Highlanders' offense weren't able to build pressure off any of their opportunities in the half, only having 1 shot on goal.

Miller's eight saves throughout proved pivotal for the Highlanders in the match, leading them to draw against the #23-ranked Runnin' Bulldogs. This draw moves the Highlanders to fourth in the Big standings.
