Volleyball’s Winning Streak Snapped at UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Radford volleyball program saw their winning streak snapped on the road at UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon, falling in a tough battle 3-0.

Despite a close battle for the majority of the first set, it was a late run that sunk the Highlanders early to go down 1-0. Sloss continued her strong weekend with two kills early while Alana Kolb, Olivia Ryno and Robinson also all tallied early points. After trailing just 13-15, though, the Bulldogs scored 10 of the last 13 points in the set to take a commanding 1-0 lead in the match.

Radford would go down 5-1 early in set two before getting a big comeback to take a lead that stood for most of the set. A 5-0 run fueled by two kills and a block from Katrina Miller put Radford back ahead. Both teams were evenly matched from there until two straight aces from Robinson gave Radford a stronger 15-13 edge.

The Highlanders would lead by as much as 20-16 in the set before falling victim to another late run. UNC Asheville went on an extended 8-1 run that closed out set two in their favor, 25-22, putting Radford in a tough spot down 2-0 in the match.

Radford wasn't able to recover as the Bulldogs began set three on yet another strong run. Trailing by as far as 17-7, the Bulldogs took control of the match. Radford rallied late with a 10-1 run behind kills from Sloss and Hatch, but it wasn't enough to overcome the big deficit as UNC Asheville took the match 3-0.

Radford's road trip extends to next weekend as the Highlanders have two more road trips before returning to Dedmon. Action kicks off on Friday, October 24th at Winthrop with a 6 p.m. start.
