RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball program fell in a tough final to Gardner-Webb Friday afternoon in a 3-0 finish.

KEY STATS
  • Olivia Ryno led all players in the match with 13 kills, hitting at an impressive .407 clip.
  • Radford had more kills in the match than Gardner-Webb but doubled their error total 24-10.
  • Seven of Radford's last eight sets played have been decided by five or less points.

PLAY BY PLAY
Despite the lopsided final score, each set was close as the two squads fought evenly throughout. Early on, the Running Bulldogs attack was efficient and committed just one error in the entire opening set. Radford was forced to play from behind and was led by Sierra Moore and Ryno offensively. Serving errors and attack errors mounted for Radford as the set played on and Gardner-Webb took it 25-17.

Radford had a much better start to set two thanks in part to a 4-0 run behind two kills from Moore and an ace from Miranda Howard. Out of a timeout, Gardner-Webb stormed back. The set was then deadlocked as neither team gained an edge the rest of the way.

Radford leaned on kills from Alana Kolb, Aubrey Hatch and Ryno to stay in the match. A slew of blocks at the midway point provided support from the relentless Gardner-Webb attack. Tied at 23-23, Gardner-Webb made the final run of the set to pull away 25-23 and take a 2-0 lead.

In set three, the competition was once again evenly matched. Radford got a big run thanks to more kills from Moore and Lea Gage to go up 9-5. Out of a timeout, however, Gardner-Webb adjusted once again and evened the match. A serving mishap disrupted a Radford run and proved pivotal as the set played on.

Radford continued to battle and took advantage of some Gardner-Webb errors to pull back within 21-20. In crunch time, Radford got kills from Ryno and Katrina Miller to tighten the set further down 23-22. Gardner-Webb was able to hold on when all was said and done, though, winning set three 25-23 and the match 3-0.
