Volleyball Falls in Road Battle at Buccaneers

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Radford volleyball program fell on the wrong end of a 3-0 battle Friday night on the road against Charleston Southern.
 
KEY STATS
  • Katrina Miller and Rylee Sloss returned to the lineup for Radford and combined for 14 kills.
  • Radford allowed seven aces in the opening set, and just three the rest of the way.
  • Kennedy Robinson took on the bulk of the attacking role and tied for the team lead in kills with eight.
 
PLAY BY PLAY
Struggles off the serve would hurt the Highlanders early in Friday's match allowing the Buccaneers to build an early lead. Three of Charleston Southern's first five points came off aces, allowing the host to build a 14-7 advantage. Kills from Robinson would help keep Radford close, but Charleston Southern ultimately took set one 25-15.
 
Radford went down in set two 5-1 but battled back thanks to kills from Robinson and Kolb. Kills from Miller would pull Radford within 10-11. Robinson's kills would continue to keep Radford within a point for most of the set, but it would slip away 25-18 in the Buccaneers' favor.
 
Radford looked to right the ship in set three, but the Buccaneers kept cruising. Radford's attack came back with a vengeance thanks to kills from Miller, Kolb and Sloss. Charleston Southern wound up taking the final set 25-21, and finalized the match at 3-0.
