Highlanders Fall in First Road Game of The Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Radford women's lacrosse team fell 19-4 to UNC Charlotte in their first road game of the 2025 season Saturday evening.
 
KEY STATS 

  • Mady Cheney led the Highlanders in offense recording two goals in today's matchup, tying her season high. 

  
PLAY BY PLAY 

The 49ers would open scoring in today's match as they were able to secure the first goal with nine minutes left to play in the first quarter. UNC Charlotte's run wouldn't end there as they were able to add three more to their total to make it 4-0 heading into the second. In the second, Mady Cheney would secure her fourth goal of the season to make it a 4-1 game. However, the 49ers would add five to their tally to make it 9-1 heading into the half. 

In the third quarter, the 49ers would go on a six-goal run to make it a 15-1 game. Molly O'Brien would add on a goal for the Highlanders to make it a 15-2 game with 1:20 left in the quarter, but UNC Charlotte would carve out one more in the dying seconds of the third to make it a 16-2 game.

For the fourth, the Highlanders would be able to add two more goals to their total with Madison Driscoll and Mady Cheney both securing their fifth goals of the season. But the 49ers would add on three of their own to see the game conclude at 19-4 in favor of UNC Charlotte. 

 
AROUND THE BIG SOUTH 

  • Presbyterian fell on the road to Akron 16-4 

  • Queens (N.C.) cruised past Winthrop with a 22-5 victory. 

  • Furman held off Kennesaw State 15 –11.
