Stephens Picks Up Strong Singles Win as Women’s Tennis Falls to Illinois State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Radford women's tennis program fell in a tight match Saturday afternoon to Illinois State in a 4-1 final.
In doubles play, the Redbirds picked up wins on courts two and three to seal the 1-0 advantage early. Julia Abrams and Lexi Smolder were battling on court one, however, only down 4-3.
In singles, it was Michaela Stephens who highlighted the match with a dominant win on the top flight. The sophomore finished first to tie the match earning an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory. Redbirds victories on courts two, four and five would seal the shortened match in their favor, however. Smolder was competing tough on court three, up a set before going unfinished 7-5, 4-4.
Radford will make their home debut this upcoming Wednesday, February 26th when they host Emory & Henry for a to be determined start time.
