Women’s Tennis Sweeps Wasps in Home Opener Victory

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program opened play on the home courts decisively Wednesday afternoon sweeping Emory & Henry 7-0.
Radford began its dominant day in doubles play picking up a trio of wins on all three courts. Julia Abrams and Lexi Smolder teamed up for a 6-2 win on court one while Natalia Reimer and Rachel Ekanem also earned a 6-2 win on court two. Wrapping up the early doubles point were Brooke Murphy and Michaela Stephens winning 6-1 on court three.
In singles play, the Highlanders kept cruising to the eventual 7-0 final. Stephens defended the top court with a 6-0, 6-1 victory while Abrmas also moved with ease 6-1, 6-0 on court two. Smolder took down her opponent 6-2, 6-1 on court three with Murphy also winning 6-0, 6-1 on court four.
Rounding out the singles wins were Reimer winning 6-4, 6-3 on court five and Ekanem taking down her Wasp foe 6-0, 6-2 on court six.
The Highlanders will go back on the road for their next match this upcoming Friday, February 28th. Closing out the month of February, Radford visits ETSU for a 2 p.m. first serve.
