Softball Fights Early, Falls at #7 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, TENN. – The Radford softball program fought close early before ultimately falling to #7 Tennessee Wednesday afternoon at the Volunteers.

The Highlanders had a solid start against their second straight ranked foe as starting pitcher Morgan Cooper dialed a scoreless first inning. Cassi Barbato also tallied the Highlanders first hit of the day in the opening frame.

In the second, the Volunteers tagged Cooper for a single run to go up 1-0. A string of hits in the third pushed the lead to 5-0. In the fourth, Tennessee added on pushing their lead to 10-0.

In the fifth, the Highlanders didn't go away quietly. Freshman Jada Holt worked a walk and promptly stole second, allowing Isabel Harrison to double her home for the first run. Amanda Lee would also single contributing to the two-out rally, but the Highlanders would ultimately fall 10-1.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders turn their attention to their next weekend tournament at the Hokie Invite. Action begins with a pair of games against Bucknell (10 a.m.) and Penn State (12:30 p.m.) on Friday, February 28th.
