Strong Second Half Defense Not Enough as Lacrosse Falls to Presbyterian

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's lacrosse program put forth an incredible second half defensive effort against Presbyterian Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell in the 13-12 final.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Highlanders would open the scoring in the first half of Saturday's match which saw much of the goal scoring overall on the day. Just a minute in, Kaitlyn Lytton stayed hot with the first goal. Presbyterian would score three unanswered however, forcing Radford to respond.

Radford responded with a 3-0 run of their own, largely supplied by Cheney. Cheney scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 3-3 before Erica Lawerence earned the senior day goal to give Radford the slim 4-3 lead with 8:24 left in the first quarter.

Presbyterian rattled off two goals before Driscoll was able to score for the first time in the game to retie the match. Presbyterian would find the net one more time before the first quarter ended to hold the 6-5 advantage.

Driscoll and Cheney would combine for four goals to open the second quarter as the two squads began to trade possessions. Back-to-back goals by Cheney gave Radford a 9-8 edge with 4:24 left in the half, but the Blue Hose found their biggest scoring run of the day at 4-0 to take their first multi goal lead since the opening minutes.

Radford trailed 12-9 entering the third quarter leaning on its defense over the final 30 minutes in a match that wound close to the final seconds. Driscoll and Gee found the back of the net to represent the only two goals of the third quarter as Radford trailed 12-11.

Presbyterian scored their lone goal of the second half three minutes into the fourth quarter to go ahead 13-11. Maggie Wisniewski would take advantage of a man-up opportunity to pull Radford back within one with ten minutes to play. Both teams would trade possessions, but nobody found the back of the net. Radford would possess the ball last but was unable to convert in the 13-12 finish.
