Phenomenal Week Earns Redmon Fifth Big South Weekly Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that freshman Dakota Redmon has been named Pitcher of the Week, her fifth award this season, after she earned two more Big South wins and a save on the home front this past week.

The freshman kept firing for the Highlanders this past week helping lead the team to three wins at home. Redmon made her first appearance in relief work against UNC Greensboro, working two scoreless innings in a tight 1-0 final for her first career save.

In the series opener against Longwood, Redmon tied her career high for strikeouts in a game with 10 while shutting down the Lancers offense in the 8-0 shutout. Sunday's series finale saw another career-high mark for the newcomer as she went nine innings. Redmon dug deep for eight more strikeouts, never faltering late, while throwing 174 pitches for the eventual walk-off win.

The weekly award for Redmon is her fifth this season and is her fourth award in the last five weeks given out by the Big South. In conference play, Redmon has earned a weekly award for each series pitched. The last time a Highlander pitcher took home 5+ weekly awards in a single season was Ashley Taylor during the 2008 campaign.

Redmon and the Highlanders are preparing for a midweek tilt this upcoming Tuesday, April 15th when they visit ACC foe (RV) Virginia for a 6 p.m. first pitch streaming on ACC Network Extra.
