Baseball stays hot with third straight victory

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball program continued its recent winning ways with its third straight victory, this time over Queens, by a 9-4 margin in a non-conference, mid-week battle at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the Highlanders 17th victory of the year, the most victories in a season since the 2021 campaign.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Radford – 9, Queens – 4
LOCATION: Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium (Radford, Virginia)
RECORDS: Radford 17-19 (5-7 Big South), Queens 5-29 (3-12 ASUN)

THE BREAKDOWN
- Eight different Radford student-athletes posted at least one base knock, four finished with multi-hit efforts and four also recorded two RBI.
- James Ward continued his standout campaign with a 2-for-5 day at the plate that included a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Brady Powell and Zach Paczewski both stepped into the lineup and posted huge afternoons. Powell went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and a walk while Paczewski finished 1-for-4 overall. Both Powell and Paczewski recorded two runs batted in apiece, respectively.
- Eli Hudgins made it four Highlanders with multi-RBI performances off a 1-for-4 showing.
- Tyler Kehoe (2-for-4, two runs) and Kyle Crisp (2-for-3, two runs, one base on balls) also had multi-hit performances.
- Both Hunter Keen (1-for-5, one double) and Tyler Sparrer (1-for-4) came around to score a single time.
- Ben Keefe improved to 3-1 on the year with five standout innings of work on the mound. He allowed just four hits and one earned run to go with five strikeouts. The five innings thrown were the most in a single game in his career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Radford once again got on the board first in the bottom of the first off a RBI single up the middle by Ward to make it a 1-0 game. - Ward stuck again with a solo shot in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 2-0. - The Highlanders weren't done there as they added five runs in total in the frame to take a commanding 6-0 advantage. - Queens tried to get back in it with a run in the top of the fourth to make it 6-1.
- Radford wasn't having any of that with a three-spot in the bottom of the fifth. - The Royals scored twice in the sixth and once in the eighth, but by then the game was already out of reach as the Highlanders cruised to the 9-4 win.
