Softball Blanked in Doubleheader at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –The Radford softball program fell in their doubleheader at Marshall Tuesday afternoon falling in game one 5-1 and game two 3-0.

GAME ONE
In game one of the day Radford got a good start early, but had it wiped from a double play. Grace Bechtol drew a walk and Cassi Barbato singled, but the double play kept things scoreless. Dakota Redmon was excellent in the first retiring three straight.

In the second, Marshall tagged on a run thanks to a two-out RBI double. Radford would look to strike back in the third as Klara Van Beuge walked and Isabel Harrison singled, but the duo was also stranded to keep it a 1-0 game.

Radford kept Marshall scoreless in the third thanks to a double play of their own, but in the fourth a three-run homer would push the hosts lead to 4-0. Radford would get one back in the fifth thanks to some timely hitting from Isabel Harrison who roped a two-out double to score Bechtol.

Radford's offense would be held silent from there, however, as Marshall would add one more via a homer in the sixth. Abby Peace would enter to get the final two outs of the sixth before Radford went down in order in the seventh to fall 5-1.

GAME TWO
An early double play would end Radford's early scoring threat in the first after Bechtol led the game off getting on base once again with an infield single. Starting pitcher Morgan Cooper would be excellent in the early goings of the game to preserve the scoreless tie.

Two strikeouts highlighted a scoreless first for Cooper who also retired three straight in the second. Marshall would put a runner in scoring position after a walk in the third, but Cooper once again retired the threat to keep it a 0-0 game.

Marshall would see their first hits of the game in the fourth, using it to take their first lead. The Herd got a solo home run and a two-RBI double to take the 3-0 lead, where the final would eventually land.

Radford would turn a heads-up 6-3-2 double play in the fifth to keep it a three-run game. Offensive woes continued, however, as Radford would get a double from Kelley Feigen as its second hit of the game in the seventh before ultimately being shut out in the 3-0 final.
