Volleyball Bested at Home Against High Point

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball program fell in a tough match Friday night in their conference opener to High Point 3-0.

While the Highlanders opened set two with a brief lead behind a kill from Rylee Sloss, the Panthers rallied with five straight points to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the set. A serving error and block by Olivia Ryno and Taryn Roberts would briefly break the run, but High Point would continue charging out to a 13-4 advantage.

Kills from Sierra Moore and Aubrey Hatch paced Radford back within six, but three straight kills put High Point back up 17-8. Sloss and Lea Gage would add kills, but the Panthers would ultimately pull away taking set one 25-11.

Hatch and Roberts would add early kills to get set two started, but High Point once again used a long run to pull away early. Down 9-4, Radford got a block assist from Sloss and Gabriela Smolenska to cut into the deficit. A kill by Moore made it 10-7 followed by a 5-1 run by the Panthers to push their lead to 15-8 at the media timeout. Out of the timeout, Radford got offensive sparks from Katrina Miller and Jackeline Nerro to attempt a comeback. The Highlanders came as close as 20-16, but High Point held on to take set two 25-16.

The early goings of set three were a tight affair thanks to some service errors by the Panthers and kills from Moore and Roberts. Tied at 5-5, Radford also got a flurry of kills from Miller to go up 8-7. Another kill by Gage put Radford up 9-8, but a 6-1 run by High Point vaulted them ahead. Another 7-0 run put the set fully out of reach, as the Panthers held on to take set three 25-15 and the match 3-0.

The Highlanders will look to bounce back when they return to Dedmon tomorrow, September 27th at 4 p.m. against Elon. The nonconference match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
